When Faith Defies The Odds | Pastor Chris Coats | Island Christian Church
• Series: Domino Effect
In Judges 6–7, we meet Gideon, a man hiding in fear while his nation is crushed underenemy oppression. But God calls him something surprising: a “mighty man of valor.” Gideon questions God’s presence and plan, but God doesn’t wait for him to become fearless—He calls him while he’s still afraid. And then He sends him into battle… after reducing his army from 32,000 to just 300 men. Why? So Israel would know it wasn’t their strength that brought victory, but God’s. Through Gideon’s story, we see how God often reduces our resources to increase our reliance. He confirms His promises when we need it most—even through unexpected means. And He calls us to worship before the win. This message reminds us that faith isn’t the absence of fear—it’s trusting God when the odds don’t add up. Ultimately, Gideon points us to Jesus, the greater Deliverer, who won the greatest victory not through power, but through surrender. The cross looked like weakness—but it was the triumph of God’s love over sin and death. When we walk by faith, even when it doesn’t make sense, we make room for God to move in unmistakable ways.
